Neuralgia is a disease of the peripheral nerves, which is accompanied by severe pain and autonomic infringements, such as cramps, cool skin, sweating, lacrimation, excessive salivation. Attacks can last from several minutes to several hours, it can be noticed while swelling, anxiety, fear, cool. According to statistics, the most common are considered to be the trigeminal and occipital nerves, and intercostal neuralgia.

Occipital nerve neuralgia starts as pain in neck and nape, gradually spreading from the back of the head in the head and eyes. The pain increases while turning the head, neck, touching, sneezing and coughing, while strong attacks arouse nausea and vomiting.

Intercostal neuralgia accompanied by encircling chest pain, affecting one, sometimes two or three intercostal spaces. Pains are constant aching in nature, becomes stronger when walking, deep breathing, turning the body and touch the ribs and intercostal spaces.Intercostal neuralgia is easily confused with pain arising in diseases of the heart, lungs, pleura and with shingles.

Trigeminal neuralgia usually attacks women of 50-60 years, and the disease usually affects the right side of the body. Scientists believe that the endocrine system of the female body is guilty. Neuralgia arouses severe pain, usually occurring during conversation or during a meal. The pain can be aroused accidentally by touching the points of the nerve. Trigeminal nerve can be presented in the form of a “tree” with three branches: the first extends to the forehead, the second to the cheek and mucosa of the nose and upper jaw teeth, and the third – to the lower jaw. Pain attack begins in the course of the nerve branches, but soon the pain spreads over the face.

The signs of neuralgia may be aroused by trauma, infection, hypothermia, at least by a strong overheating of the body. In the treatment of neuralgia do not forget about the possibilities of aromatherapy, burned 2-3 drops of essential oil of cloves before going to bed.Trigeminal neuralgia often starts as a complication of pulpitis, periodontitis, sinusitis, especially if the inflammatory process contributes to the narrowing of the bony openings through which pass branches of the nerve.

The occipital and intercostal neuralgia are caused by diseases of the spine, internal organs, and tumors – both good and bad.It is extremely difficult to treat neuralgia symptoms. Patients are prescribed sedatives, dry heat, ultrasound, electrophoresis of novocaine. In severe cases the nerve is removed.
